Why's a god of fortune teaching at a school for youkai? Ebisu has claimed he's there to keep an eye on his younger brother Sano, and so far he's proven himself to be a skilled teacher, a personable guy with a naturally friendly attitude that gets along easily with his students.
Despite the pleasant, competent persona he puts on, Ebisu loathes youkai and would likely not choose to be at the school were it not for the circumstances (which is set squarely between Sano being a student, the presence of a certain pesky reincarnation, and some other mysterious reason involving a spy at the school). Though he claims that making humans happy is his job, whether or not that was a ploy to gain trust remains to be seen.
Make no mistake, there's no real warmth behind his constant smiling.
CANON POINT: Manga, latest chapter (125)
POWERS:
GOOD LUCK - While he can't bring anyone direct wealth, Ebisu's luck is downright supernatural. He can make sheer guesses and be correct 100% of the time, end up exactly in the places he needs to be by happenstance, and advice or suggestions he gives to other people always ends in a good result. It's still possible to trick or blindside him into doing things he'd usually squirm out of; this power is either not always 'on' or depends on Ebisu's intentions (and since he can't predict the future, he can't decide on outcomes before they're presented to him).
GOD MAGIC - Ebisu is capable of using a magic similar to Sano's that has been shown to disintegrate objects.
SUPERHUMAN STRENGTH - He's much stronger than an average person and can pull off some athletic feats... when he feels like it.
